Some of you may not know that David Monbiot is a leading spokesperson
in UK for heavy handed and oppressive regulation to stop Global
Warming. He writes columns in the Guardian, books etc - including this
attack on David Bellamy:

Monbiot's most recent book, Heat: How to Stop the Planet Burning,
published in 2006, focuses on the issue of climate change. In this
book, Monbiot argues that a 90% reduction in carbon emissions is
necessary in developed countries in order to prevent disastrous
changes to the climate.

Monbiot believes that drastic action coupled with strong political
will is needed to combat global warming. Monbiot asserts that climate
change is the "moral question of the 21st century" and that there is
little time for debate or objections to a raft of emergency actions he
believes will stop climate change, including: setting targets on
greenhouse emissions using the latest science; issuing every citizen
with a 'personal carbon ration'

Sir Crispin was President of the Royal Geographical Society from 1990
to 1993 and Warden of Green College, Oxford between 1990 and 1997,
where he appointed George Monbiot and Norman Myers as Visiting
Fellows. From 1996 until August 2006 he was chancellor of the
University of Kent when Sir Robert Worcester took over the position.
He is currently director of the Policy Foresight Programme of the
James Martin Institute for Science and Civilization at the University
of Oxford (formerly the Green College Centre for Environmental Policy
and Understanding) and Chairman Emeritus of the Climate Institute, in
Washington DC. He has many interests, including climate change,
population issues, conservation of biodiversity and the early history
of the Earth.
His worldwide status as an authority on climate change is all the more
surprising because he has no formal academic training in this area and
has formed his opinion by self-teaching !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Public Impact

A man of strong environmental convictions, he has been described as
influential in Britain, although his environmental message has not
always travelled as easily abroad, particularly to the United States.
His 1977 book 'Climate Change in World Affairs' argues that Third
World states might have to be forced to stop pollution. Despite his
non-scientific background, he is internationally respected as having a
strong grasp of science policy issues. He has been the recipient,
between 1990 and 2006, of 23 honorary doctorates[3].
He is currently the president of the UK charity TREE AID[3], which
enables communities in Africa's drylands to fight poverty and become
self-reliant, while improving the environment. He is also a patron of
the Optimum Population Trust, and told Radio 4's Today programme that
the proper population for Britain would be just 20 million [4] and
before that, told Newsnight that immigration was endangering the
country.[5] As a member of Lord Rogers' Urban Task Force, Tickell
counselled against building more homes saying that we need denser
living, that young adults should not expect to leave home straight
away, and that older relatives could live in 'granny flats'[6] (Sir
Crispin lives in a Somerset farmhouse[7]).

You can imagine what sorts of policies would be required to reduce the
population of UK from 60 to 20 million. These persons of nominal
scientific credentials are basically upper class politicians, who
would like to see the commoners off the roads so they can glide along
- unobstructed - in their Bentleys. The policies they espouse would
clearly reduce the middle class back to the serfdom, from which the
cheeky buggers unfortunately and disturbingly, arose - Ken
